Animal lovers urged to vote for dog park

Calling all animal lovers for help! Beckley has been enrolled in a contest sponsored by PetSafe to win $100,000. If we win, the money will be used to establish a dog park.

Land has already been designated for the project by the Piney Creek Watershed Association. This project is supported by the civic leaders of the town. Pet Supplies Plus  is spearheading the contest.

Dog parks are an asset to any town and have become popular in the last 15 years. Huntington won the money about three years ago. Wheeling also won.

We can win, but we all have to pull together to make it happen. We are fighting against hundreds of cities throughout the United States for the prize money.

A dog park is in Beckley’s 10-year plan to improve the city. Let’s make it happen — now!

Some local business are helping to spread the word for this community project. All the pet community in the area have announcements and instructions on what to do to win the contest. To win it takes the people in the community and surrounding areas support, without this the money is lost. Please do your part.

The first phase of the contest, the weeding out, ends June 7. This is what YOU can do, it is all about voting. Getting to the finals is based upon geographical area and population. Because we are a close-knit community; we can build the numbers that we need, just like Fayetteville and Lewisburg won the “Coolest Town” contest.

All voting is done online; Go to Bark For Your Park 2014 website and register to vote.

Select West Virginia, then Beckley.

Click on “VOTE NOW.” It will show the number of votes including yours.

Under the vote count you will see in small print “vote for your city on Facebook also.”

You can vote only one time per day. The website reads the IP address so no cheating allowed. Anyone can vote, even out-of-state people.
