Study the gospel to know what to do

I am writing to encourage everyone to read the gospel attributed to Jesus by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament. If you read those teachings for yourself, no one will ever be able to deceive you.

In those writings, Jesus says you search the Scriptures looking for salvation, but they tell of Him. What He is saying there is that the Scriptures indicate that salvation comes through following Him, not merely by the reading of Scriptures only.

Jesus said if you believe in Him, you must also believe in His words. He said if you love Me you will keep My sayings. And He asks: How can you call me Lord if you don’t do the things I have told you to do?

You will find that the teachings of Jesus require action of those who truly believe.

So what has Jesus told those who would follow Him that they must do? He says the first thing before you can go any further is to repent. In the Greek army of His day, the marching order “Repent!” meant the soldiers would turn immediately and go in the opposite direction.

When Jesus says “Repent,” it means you must turn away from sin in order to follow Him to Heaven. Following Him means to follow (obey) His instructions. If you are going toward sin, you cannot be going toward Heaven. It is not possible to go in two directions at the same time.

Those instructions, after repentance, are to love everyone, not be angry with anyone, not to judge anyone and to help anyone in need. Simply put, Jesus wants us to only do good things and not do bad things, because that’s the Way that leads to Heaven.. The Way is a creed, a code of conduct, a Way of Life. The Way can also be taken to mean a path that leads to Heaven.

Some may not understand what it means to “receive” Christ as their Lord. In the way we use the language today, it means to accept Him as your “Boss.” You might say Jesus is looking for full-time employees. If you accept the job, then His sayings become more than just good suggestions or happy talk, but actual requirements for those willing to make a serious commitment to following His instructions with the hope of entering the Kingdom of Heaven for all eternity. That is one fine retirement package!

Jesus said if any come after Him preaching a different gospel, we should not listen. So study the gospel Jesus preached until you are sure to know the difference when you hear it.

May God’s peace and blessings be on us all.
