If we deny God, we invite punishment

And they shall know ...

Our adult Sunday school class has been studying Ezekiel. Throughout this God inspired writing the phrase “and they shall know that I am the Lord” comes up 51 times.

All types of sin and wickedness brought all the punishments that were given in various forms.

Countries, people, leaders were in so deep in their sin that God would stop at nothing to get their attention “and they shall know that I am the Lord.”

America, how much punishment will we bring on ourselves because we deny God? What will it take to get your attention?

Financial devastation, war, loss of family members, friends? Think about this matter. And they will know that I am the Lord.

McComas letter was travesty of inaccuracy

Larry McComas’ letter in the Oct. 16 Our Readers Speak attacking the Democratic Party for taking away Social Security benefits was a travesty of inaccuracy.

First he states that the Democratic party under President Lyndon Johnson took the Social Security trust fund and to put it into the general fund so they could spend it. According to the Social Security website ( and Wikipedia and history facts, the trust fund has never been put into the general fund.

He also states that the Democratic party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA). According to there was never any such provision that Social Security taxes paid by employees be tax deductible and, in fact, the 1935 law expressly forbids it (section 803 of Title VIII).

He also states that the Democratic party started taxing Social Security annuities. This actually started under Ronald Reagan in 1983 as part of a bipartisan commission plan by Republicans and Democrats to make Social Security solvent long term. In 1993 this tax was increased on the rich Social Security recipients only.

Finally his statement that Democrats started giving SSI social security annuities to immigrants is inaccurate. SSI is a separate program that is a federal welfare program  and no contributions from immigrants or citizens or anyone else is required. The SSI program was initiated by the Republicans’ Nixon administration.

All this is verifiable at website and other historical fact websites.
