Area scores a goal by supporting tourney
Once again, the Beckley community has stepped up in support of the WVSSAC State Soccer Tournament which was held Nov. 8-9 at the Paul Cline Memorial Soccer Complex. It takes a dedicated effort among community partners to continually bring the state tournament to Beckley.
All throughout the year, all around the state, soccer players can’t wait to say, “I’m going to Beckley!” They know they are coming to a fantastic soccer complex and a welcoming city as well as playing for a state title.
Our community pride shows through each year when the soccer teams and their families visit our neighborhood for the two-day event. Having the state tournament in Beckley allows us an opportunity to showcase our area and what we have to offer. The tournament also gives a boost to our local businesses with 16 teams bringing in their families and fans from across the state.
Without our community partners and many volunteers it would not be possible to bring the State Soccer Tournament to Beckley.
The 2013 Planning Committee would like to thank the following partners and the many volunteers involved with the State Tournament for your continued support:
Platinum: Crossroads Chevrolet, Little General Stores, Mid-State Automotive Group, Raleigh General Hospital, West Virginia Citizen Conservation Corps and West Virginia Soccer Association.
Gold: Beaver Coal Co., Beckley Register-Herald, Hometown Subaru, Raleigh County Recreation Authority and The Nehemiah Group.
Silver: City National Bank, Harvey Dental Group, Howard Johnson, Paramount Development Corp. and United Bank.
Bronze: Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Cheddar’s, Marquee Cinemas and Winterplace Ski Resort.
In Kind: Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, Chick-fil-A, Jan-Care Ambulance Service, John Amy, Laurel Lodge Enterprises, Pasquale’s and YMCA of Southern West Virginia.
We want to give a special thanks to the City of Beckley, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce and Visit Southern West Virginia for their invaluable support in making this tournament a success.
Thanks to all our local media — you do great work in covering the state tournament and keeping everyone informed about scores and highlights during the matches and the writers and photographers from The Register-Herald provide great in-depth tournament stories and pictures.
The planning committee was without the leadership this year of Dave Laraba due to some health issues and it wasn’t the same without him, but we are looking forward to having him back at the helm for next year’s tournament, which we will again have the privilege of hosting in November 2014.
We look forward to again planning and working with our community partners to ensure that we put on the best tournament experience for the whole state to enjoy.
Thanks to everyone for embracing the State Soccer Tournament and appreciating all that it does for our community.
