Natural gas price article questioned





In Mr. Charles Sheehan’s article on “natural gas prices,” he mentioned one reason being “our import of natural gas.” To me, there are still unanswered questions about the escalation of gas prices. He did not mention this country’s natural gas production. All over southern West Virginia you see gas wells. As I understand it, natural gas is also recovered in unmined coal seams.

The price to consumers is $15 per M., plus an additional $6.50 surcharge. My question, “The wholesale price of natural gas is less than $7 plus $6.50 surcharge.”

How much gas are we producing in West Virginia, and why don’t we benefit cost-wise from this local production?
