Deer herd numbers already a problem

I was amused, no, actually I was outraged when I heard a segment on the local TV news recently that quoted the DNR as saying that the number of deer hunters in West Virginia is way down this year. They went on to lament that because of this, the deer herd numbers could become a problem by spring. Could become a problem?

Where have these morons been the past few years when it has become impossible for landowners to have a vegetable garden without investing lots of time and money in fences? It’s a waste of time to try to have flowers and shrubbery in our yards and fruit trees and grapevines are something we used to enjoy. How many families have not been affected by highway crashes with vehicle damage and often human injuries?

Might become a problem? There’s nothing normal or reasonable about people having to deal with this absurdity. There’s nothing normal or reasonable about not being able to drive out any country road without seeing herds of deer grazing in the fields.

Does anybody care about what this is doing to agriculture within our state? Does anybody care that we’re tired of fighting this ridiculous situation? Perhaps it’s time for vigilante action. Perhaps it’s time for homeowners to reclaim their yards and gardens!
