Sen. Obama’s remarks were right on target

Sen. Barack Obama’s recent remarks regarding the bitterness of rural America and the tendency of people to “cling to guns and God” in hard economic times are simply being used by a political media machine as a smear tool designed to make Sen. Obama appear as an “elitist.”

We in rural America absolutely cling to guns and God in good times and bad. What Sen. Obama said was the truth and it resonated with rural America because those of us here know we can rely on a gun if we have to in order to feed our families. We know we can rely on an Almighty God who cares for all his children and provides us with our needs when we ask. I am glad that Sen. Obama recognizes those two elements are a part of my heritage which also shows that, yes, he is connected to the common, working men and women of this country.

You want to know the truth? Rural America is bitter. Bitter that our jobs have been shipped overseas for the sake of a corporate tax break, bitter that the price of groceries and gas is through the roof, bitter that health care is unaffordable, and bitter because we don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sen. Hillary Clinton feels that rural America has been offended by Sen. Obama’s remarks and that it is her duty to defend us because we are too ignorant to realize we have been offended and she shall right this horrible wrong committed against us. Please. Give me a break. Sen. Obama’s remarks were right on target.
