This letter is in response to the April 12 letter in “Our Readers Speak” titled “Nonwhite leaders don’t help other countries.”
The article began as a cry against the presidential bid of Sen. Obama. This cry was not built on the basis of the senator’s opinions on foreign or domestic policy nor even on any of his personal merits or demerits. It was based simply on the idea that “nonwhites” have not helped other countries, therefore a “nonwhite” individual could not help ours.
Yes, unbelievably, such an article was published in the year 2008. Such ethnic prejudice still exists despite years of struggle for civil rights. I couldn’t believe it when I read it. I thought that I was reading an excerpt from Mein Kamph.
History, logic, science and scripture all point to the equality of all men and women regardless of ethnicity or nation of origin. The article did rightly point out that some “nonwhite” leaders have proven themselves dishonorable, but it conveniently left out the many white leaders who have been equally bad or even worse. Hitler, Stalin, Nero and others are just a sample of some of the world’s worst leaders. All of these individuals were white men.
The article also failed to mention Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Sojourner Truth, Mahatma Gandhi and many others who have been some of the world’s greatest leaders. All of these? “Nonwhites.”
We can easily conclude that the color of ones skin makes a good leader to the same extent that the color of ones shoestrings does.
The article also sarcastically said that “Barack Obama” is a “good American name.” There is no such think as an American name. John traces its etymology back to Hebrew. Hillary and George come from Greek. My own name, Adam, also comes from Hebrew. The name Barack is an African name meaning “blessing,” which may even be more American than these other names because it refers to God’s many blessings on our country.

A friend said something very interesting bout the illegal workers problem. He said (to paraphrase), “The solution, is simple. Fine the employer. Heavily.”
The following could be considered when thinking about this situation.
After being legally warned, any employer who has illegals working for him would be fined 1 percent per employee of the worth of the business.
That would be for the first day. Each succeeding day would see the previous day’s fine doubled.
Adding up seven days of fines, the employer would have paid fines totally 127 percent of the business’ value. The next day would require him to pay an additional 128 percent. The next day would be another 256 percent and so on.
It doesn’t take too long before we’re talking about real money.
