For the first time in its history, the “City of Champions” has the opportunity to bring home not one, but two state championships to Beckley.
The No. 5 Crusaders of Greater Beckley Christian will take on No. 4 Tucker County Wednesday night at the Charleston Civic Center in the opening round of the Class A state tournament.
However, before the red-and-black express roars toward the capital city, the community will get its chance to send off the Crusaders.
Just as with Woodrow Wilson on Monday, fans will have the chance to show GBC their support at Chick-fil-A from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today. The sendoff will be held at the Crossroads Mall location.
Chick-fil-A owner Richard Jarrell will donate 15 percent of all sales between 5:30 and 7 p.m. to the team to help defer the costs of travel and lodging for the state tournament.
Tickets to Wednesday’s game can be purchased at tonight’s event.
This will be Greater Beckley’s second trip to the state tournament in school history. The Crusaders’ last appearance was in 2007, when they lost 53-45 to eventual state champion Charleston Catholic.
