BECKLEY — After a week off and its longest road trip in the books, Marshall gets back on the court tonight to host East Carolina.

Tip-off for the game will be 7 p.m.

The Thundering Herd (8-9, 1-1 Conference USA) has not played since last Saturday’s 74-63 loss at UTEP. Marshall led 12-5 at the 15:45 mark of the first half, but the offense went cold from there. The host Miners led 31-24 at halftime and coasted the rest of the way.

The Herd had just 12 turnovers, a season low, but was held to just 23 rebounds. They led C-USA at 41.7 boards per game going in.

“To get outrebounded by nine, it jumps out at me,” Marshall coach Tom Herrion said. “It's a glaring statistic.”

Marshall now turns its attention to ECU (11-5, 2-1), which posted comeback wins at home in its last two games. The Pirates beat UCF 88-85 in overtime and Houston 89-78.

ECU is led by 6-foot-8 senior forward Maurice Kemp, who leads the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game. Kemp is also tied for sixth in rebounding at 8.4.

Joining Kemp in the starting lineup will be point guard Miguel Paul (12.2 ppg, 5.7 assists per game), forward Robert Sampson (9.9, 8.8 rebounds - fifth in C-USA), forward Ty Armstrong (7.6 ppg) and guard Shamarr Bowden (6.6 ppg).

Junior DeAndre Kane is C-USA’s top assist man at 7.6 per game. He also averages 14.1 ppg and 4.8 rpg.

Also starting for Marshall will be forward Elijah Pittman (14.5), guard D.D. Scarver (14.0), forward Dennis Tinnon (10.9 ppg, 9.0 rpg - fourth in C-USA) and center Nigel Spikes (6.0, 8.4 - tied for seventh).

Marshall’s next game will be at Southern Miss at 7 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday.
