NSD: Angus a recruiting day surprise for WVU

It always happens on Christmas morning. On your list is a Tickle Me Elmo, some coloring books and a new pair of boots. But when that video game shows up you didn't know you were getting, the morning becomes magical.

That was the case for WVU Wednesday morning. The Mountaineers had some big gifts on their list for National Letter-of-Intent signing day — four-star cornerback Dravon Henry, the top recruit in Pennsylvania, William Crest, an exciting young quarterback, and others — but fans got a big surprise before 8 a.m. when Dontae Angus, a 6-foot-6, 330-pound offensive lineman out of Philadelphia, Pa., signed his letter of intent.

Angus had been a WVU target early, and he had offers on the table from Florida, Purdue, Rutgers and Temple, but he had committed to the Gators in July and little had been said about him in Mountaineer Country since.

That changed before 8 a.m., Wednesday when Angus' letter-of-intent came across the fax at the Milan Puskar Center in Morgantown and WVU announced the new recruit.

Angus helped Martin Luther King High School to a 12-2 record and the Philadelphia Public School 3A championship last year. He earned Pennsylvania Class 3A second-team all-state honors.
