A little rain isn’t going to stop soccer.
The 13th annual Little General Stores Darrell Moore Memorial Classic will kick off today at the Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex, rain or shine.
“Everything is going on as scheduled,” YMCA sports and recreation director Daniel Vass said. “Looking at the weather forecast for (today), I think we’re going to be OK.”
Vass said the YMCA has plans in place to play in the rain, as long as lightning is not present.
“We’re hoping everything is going to be out of here early and won’t really bother us,” he said.
Forty-five club, travel and recreational league soccer teams from around West Virginia, Virginia and Ohio will partake in the event, showcasing some of the best U-9 through U-19 players.
First kick will be at 8 a.m.
“We’ll play until midnight if we have to,” Vass said of the rain.
Sunday’s festivities will begin at 8:15 a.m. with a devotional from the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors, and games will begin at 9 a.m.
