Mountaineers picked to finish 8th in Big 12

IRVING, Texas — West Virginia is in for a rough year in the Big 12, according to media representatives who cover the league.

The Mountaineers were picked to finish eighth in the 10-team league as the 2014 Preseason Poll was released Thursday.

Oklahoma received 47-of-56 first-place votes and is expected to win its ninth Conference championship. The Sooners return 20 starters from last year’s 11-2 Sugar Bowl champion team.

Defending Big 12 champion Baylor received the other nine first-place nods.

Kansas State, Texas and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five followed by Texas Tech, TCU, West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas.
