7 Miners elected to PL All-Star game

BECKLEY — Seven West Virginia Miners were voted Prospect League all-stars, the league announced early Tuesday morning. The voting was conducted by league managers, front office personnel and media.

None of the Miners voted in will start the game July 8 in Terre Haute, but seven is the most of any East Division team. Danville and the host Rex lead the way with 10  each.

Elected from West Virginia were pitchers Chase Boster, Dalton Curtis and Kolin Stanley; third baseman Mike Brosseau; shortstop Grant Massey; and utility players Ryan Perkins and David Martinelli.

Perkins plays second base, meaning three of West Virginia’s four infielders were chosen. The Miners have the best statistical defense in the Prospect League.

Chillicothe’s Travis Lakins, who pitched a perfect game against the Miners on June 20, will start for the East. Opposing him will be Danville’s C.J. Burdick, who tossed a no-hitter last month.

Chillicothe manager Greg Cypret will lead the East, while Bobby Segal of host Terre Haute will manage the West.
