Mountain Lions announce kickoff times for upcoming season

ATHENS — The Concord University football team has finalized kickoff times for its 2014 schedule which features six home games at Callaghan Stadium as well as five road contests including a week 11 showdown against defending conference champion Shepherd University, head coach Garin Justice announced Tuesday.

All home football games can be heard live on Willie 97.3 FM and online at

The Mountain Lions begin their 2014 campaign by playing three of their first four games at Callaghan Stadium starting with its Sept. 6 week one Mountain East Conference contest vs. Glenville State which is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.

After traveling to take on West Virginia State at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 13 in week two, Concord returns home for back-to-back tilts Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 vs. non-conference foe Bowie State and West Liberty, respectively. Both games will kickoff at 12:00 p.m.

CU proceeds to close out the first half of the season with a week five date at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Fairmont State. The Maroon and Gray will then prepare for its 2014 homecoming game week six vs. Urbana at 2:00 p.m. in Athens, West Virginia.

Concord ends its regular season with alternating home and away games Oct. 18 at West Virginia Wesleyan (1:00 p.m.), Oct. 25 vs. Charleston (1:00 p.m.), Nov. 1 at UVa.-Wise (2:00 p.m.), Nov. 8 vs. Notre Dame (12:00 p.m.) and Nov. 15 at Shepherd (12:00 p.m.).

The Mountain Lion football program has produced five consecutive winning seasons including last year's 8-3 mark that saw Concord come one game shy of winning the inaugural MEC title. 2014 figures to be another strong season under fourth-year head coach Garin Justice, who returns 19 starters from a season ago and is 22-11 in three years at Concord.
