Liberty softball rolls to sectional wins over Indy, Summers

Liberty rolled up nine runs on 10 hits to defeat Independence 9-3 in Class AA Region 3, Section 1 play Monday to advance to the championship round.

Sam Pauley had 10 strikeouts and two RBIs to lead the Lady Raiders, while Stephanie Griffith, Stacy Williams and Brooke Hemstreet each had two hits in the win.

Brooke Foley, Katy Lilly and Elizabeth Epling each had a double for Independence.

Independence plays Summers County today. The winner will the play Liberty in the double elimination tournament.

Liberty scored in every inning to roll past Summers County in the opening game of Class AA Region 3, Section 2 play Monday in Glen Daniel.

Sam Pauley pitched a one-hit shutout, struckout 10, smacked a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Lady Raiders.

Katelyn Hannah had two double and three RBIs and Stacy Williams added two doubles and an RBI for Liberty.

Shady Spring 9, James Monroe 8

Shady Spring scored four in the fourth and five in the fifth to beat James Monroe in its regular season finale.

Charolett Johnson and Morgan Hylton were both 2 for 4 for Shady (8-15).

The Tigers will begin sectional play today at 6 p.m. in Oak Hill against the winner between the Red Devils and Woodrow Wilson. That game will start at 4 p.m.
