Fairgrounds site for Giant Fall Flea Market

FAIRLEA — Bargain-hunters of every ilk are making plans to attend the State Fair’s Giant Fall Flea Market and Antique Show.

Showcasing the wares of more than 100 indoor and outdoor vendors, the three-day event begins Oct. 4 and runs through Oct. 6 at the fairgrounds in Fairlea. Indoor vendors will set up in the West Virginia Building, and the outdoor vendors are expected to fill the landscape fair-goers associate with the carnival midway.

Merchandise offered for sale at this annual event includes antiques, collectibles, crafts and fall produce like mums and pumpkins, according to State Fair CEO Marlene Pierson-Jolliffe.

“We always have vendors selling a lot of newer, folksy arts and crafts,” Pierson-Jolliffe says. “Also, people clean out their garages in the fall, so we have gently used bikes and kids’ toys and clothes.”

Adding to the selection are an array of antique glassware, collectors’ items both old and new and — usually, Pierson-Jolliffe says — automotive products and tools.

Admission to the marketplace is free. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

“With good weather, Friday and Saturday have the biggest crowds,” Pierson-Jolliffe explains.

She emphasizes that vendors pay a flat booth rental fee and then keep all of the sales revenue they take in at the market.

Free parking is available on the main fairgrounds and in the lot adjacent to the U.S. 219 south bridge entrance. Camping is also available, but advance reservations are required.

For more information and application forms, visit or call the State Fair office at 304-645-1090 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
