Flooding, power outages reported after thunderstorms roll through our region

Thunderstorms that rolled through our region Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning have caused power outages and flooding.

As of 10 a.m., just under 2,500 Appalachian Power customers were without power including 504 in Raleigh County.

Flooding was reported in parts of McDowell County, including the Panther and Bull Creek communities.

There are no initial reports of damage at this time. McDowell County 911 officials say they do not think water got inside of any houses.

However, 911 Director Teresa Vandyke and other emergency officials from the county are heading to the Panther, Bull Creek and Trap Fork communities to evaluate the situation.

McDowell and Wyoming counties were under a tornado watch Wednesday evening. The watch expired at 9 p.m. with no problems being reported.
