PSC Transportation Enforcement officers to conduct safety inspections

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia’s Transportation Enforcement Division will conduct a 72-hour safety road check for commercial vehicles throughout the state today through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

Roadcheck 2014, sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, will promote safety and security on West Virginia roadways through the inspection of commercial vehicles and drivers, and will emphasize the importance of brake system maintenance, safe transportation of hazardous materials and preventing driver fatigue by checking drivers’ hours of service.

Last year, during Roadcheck 2013, the Enforcement Division inspected 632 commercial vehicles.  Of those, 112 vehicles were deemed unsafe and taken off West Virginia roadways until they came into compliance.
