BECKLEY — Lafayette Post 149 Commander Dennis Hanson, photo above, holds one red rose to present to the widow of Sgt. Roy A. Smith, who was honored during Monday’s LaFayette Huse Veterans Memorial groundbreaking

service in Fayetteville. Smith was a World War II veteran from Fayette County who helped storm the beaches

of Normandy.

At right, Korean and Vietnam War veteran Roy Teague, 83, of Lillybrook, paid a visit to the American Legion Cemetery on South Kanawha Street in Beckley Veterans Day to pay tribute to his fellow veterans. Teague proudly served his country for 27 years.
