Summers train derailment

MEADOW CREEK — A CSX train carrying coal derailed Monday at Meadow Creek in Summers County, Summers County dispatchers reported. Officials stated that Sandstone Fire Department was initially dispatched to the scene but that the dispatch was canceled by CSX staff, who intended to clear the accident. The derailment occurred at around 3:25 p.m. According to a witness at the scene, 20 cars were derailed, some of them spilling coal. Passenger trains from Amtrak Cardinal line, running from Chicago to New York, access the track Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, but it’s unknown if the Cardinal was affected. CSX officials did not return calls Monday evening. No injuries were reported.
