New River Gorge wildfire now 100 percent contained

The fire that has been burning in the New River Gorge since Sunday is now 100 percent contained, according to the NPS.

While the Fern Creek fire is 100 percent contained, it is only 75 percent controlled, the release stated.

The fire containment lines are completely surrounding the perimeter of the fire, however the fire is not completely out or totally controlled.

The fire received approximately 0.4 inches of rain Friday. While the rain was certainly helpful, firefighters won’t truly know how beneficial it was until the entire burn area is assessed — which is the plan of action for Saturday, the release said.

The Endless Wall area will remain closed until the fire is completely controlled and the area deemed safe for public use.
