— The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce’s 20th annual Business Show kicked off Friday with Business After Hours, and the event will be open to the public today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission and parking are free for the event, where everyone is encouraged to come out and see what their local marketplace has to offer.

This year’s Business Show coincides with the Kentucky Derby, so the theme is “Race Your Business Into the Winner’s Circle.”

The City of Beckley embraced the theme, as its booth worker, Councilwoman Ann Worley, was dressed as a horse jockey.

“We’re the city of champions,” Worley said enthusiastically.

A horseshoe game and coloring wall is set up for kids at the City’s booth, as well as a business survey to help generate ideas for the comprehensive plan.

A Relay for Life booth is also set up at the Business Show with the theme “Carnival of Hope.”

Pat Davis said she hopes everyone will stop by the booth and get motivated to become involved with Relay, which is part of the American Cancer Society.

Ellen Taylor, president and CEO of the BRCCC, said there are lots of prizes and giveaways available today. A gas grill will be given away as well as several bicycles for the kids.

She said more than 50 vendors are at the show and it’s a great way for the community to show its appreciation.

“These businesses do a lot for the community, so we’re hoping the community will come out and support these businesses.”

She added, “Buy local, save jobs.”
