— A Summers County school bus struck a black bear on W. Va. 20 near Pipestem Tuesday morning, confirmed Summers County Superintendent Vicki Hinerman.

Hinerman said the bus driver was heading out to begin his morning run and no students were on board.

No one was injured and no damage was done to the bus, she said.

The bear ran off into the woods and was later located by DNR officers and put down due to the severity of its injuries, she said.

Hinerman said the bear weighed around 200 pounds.
