BECKLEY — During the Raleigh County Commission meeting Tuesday morning, Pine Haven Homeless Shelter was awarded a $63,500 Emergency Solutions grant.

Commissioners approved Women’s Resource Center Emergency Solutions grant drawdowns for $4,411 and $2,973.

A resolution was approved for participation with the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority, which President Dave Tolliver said would help with economic development in the county.

A DUI grant application was approved for the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department for $3,000.

A Region I Work Force memorandum of understanding was approved by the commissioners.

A letter of support was submitted for the Piney Creek Trail grant application. Tolliver said the county will pay 10 percent and the city will pay 10 percent, each being $10,000 of the total $100,000 project.

Two abandoned buildings were ordered to be torn down, one in Naoma and one in Stanaford. The back of the property is falling in at Naoma and the center of the roof is falling in at the Stanaford location. Tolliver said 22 abandoned buildings have been demolished so far this year.

The next county commission meeting will be held Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.
