Two die Monday in motor vehicle accidents in the region.

— Two people died Monday in motor vehicle accidents in the region.

Carol Sue Hinkle, 63, of Fairlea was traveling southbound on U.S. 219about 8:30 a.m. just north of the Holt Lane intersection when she was struck head-on by a Ford Econoline van driven by Douglas MacArthur Meadows, 71 of Ballard, according to Lewisburg Police.

Also involved in the accident was Leslie Nicole Lagowski, 26 of Morgantown, who was behind Hinkle.

All three drivers were transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center where Hinkle later died of her injuries. Meadows and Lagowski were being treated for minor injuries.

Charges are pending and the accident remains under investigation by Lewisburg Police Cpl. J.A. Vance and Patrolman J.B. Kuhn.

The Lewisburg Fire Department and Fairlea EMS also responded to the scene. Assistance is being provided by the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department accident reconstruction team.

Later Monday in Wyoming County, an Ikes Fork man was killed following a head-on collision on W.Va. 97, according to Sheriff Randall Aliff.

Jerry Pocrnich, 53, was traveling west toward Hanover about 7 p.m. and his vehicle apparently veered  left of center, Aliff said. He struck an oncoming car head-on.

There were no injuries in the other car, Aliff said.

The investigation is continuing.
