Hotel robbery suspect arrested

A man has been charged in connection with the Quality Inn robbery that happened early Sunday morning on Harper Road in Beckley, police say.

Ronald Rafael Mayo Jr., 31, entered the Quality Inn and handed the front desk clerk a note which said he had a weapon and demanded money, according to Sgt. David Allard.

The suspect did escape with an unreleased sum, police said.

“From the video images and tips from concerned citizens through Crime Stoppers, we were able to identify the individual,” Allard said. “I obtained warrants on him last night and through tips from the public, again, I was able to take him into custody Tuesday about noon at Rite Aid on Johnstown Road.”

Mayo was charged with first-degree robbery. He was arraigned by Magistrate Tomi Peck and his bond was set at $75,000. Allard said that Mayo was being taken to Southern Regional Jail.
