Nicholas County teen arrested in beating death of father

NETTIE — A Nicholas County teenager was arrested Monday for the beating death of his father.

According to statements made in the criminal complaint by Cpl. B.S. Tucker of the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department, Trevor Antonio Batemen, 18, got into a fight with his father, Brian C. Hartley, at 607 Talbert Road in Nettie on Friday.

Bateman allegedly struck Hartley, 37, in the face and head several times with his fist, knees and head.

Hartley died from injuries sustained during the fight, according to Tucker. His body was discovered in the residence Saturday.

Tucker stated that Bateman confessed to police.

Bateman’s home address is also listed as 607 Talbert  Road in court documents. The suspect was arraigned before Nicholas Magistrate Doren Plummer on a charge of murder and transported to Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.

Sgt. B.J. Holdren assisted with the investigation.
