Last chance to get Taste of Home tickets

— The snow is (mostly) gone, and the power’s back on. The forecast is clear for home cooks, eager for a shift in focus from survival to an important annual arrival: The Taste of Home Cooking School.

Just in time to plan holiday entertaining, the fan-favored publication is back in Beckley next Thursday with its skill-imparting cooking demos and evening of camaraderie.

“We have less than a couple of hundred tickets left,” says show coordinator and Beckley Newspaper’s own Ann Kelly. “The VIPs have been sold out and we’re expecting the general admission tickets to go fast.”

Last year’s Taste of Home Culinary Specialist and clogging Ohioan Cheryl Cohen takes to the stage once again to dish up favorites like Mini Maple Cinnamon Rolls, Steak and Blue Cheese Bruschetta with Onion and Roasted Tomatoes, Braised Short Ribs, Spinach, Brie and Bacon Mini Quiche and much more.

Not only will a food-loving crowd of locals enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a star-quality demonstration kitchen, but they’ll walk away with time-sparing shortcuts and techniques … and a bag of goodies each. Those famous giveaway bags are back, offering coupons and recipes as well as room to stuff full of vendor information from the displays lining the perimeter of the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Attendees will also have the chance to win big with several impressive prizes.

Jack Richardson, store manager of Grand Home Furnishings, has committed the Grand Prize of a John Thomas dinette set in a soft cherry finish with four chairs (a $799 value) and a Best Seat in the House prize — a La-Z-Boy recliner valued at $459 to be given by drawing during the evening. Another exciting giveaway is Chick-fil-A’s Spice Up Your Seat drawing for a ticket upgrade to VIP status.

Joining the sponsor line-up is presenting sponsor Crossroads Chevrolet. Kroger, the show’s food sponsor providing the fresh ingredients used for the recipes, and Sears, the official appliance sponsor, also make returns this year.

Ticket-holders may browse the treats at vendor tables beginning 4:30 p.m. as doors open; the show commences at 6:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are $15 each; call 304-255-4409 to reserve yours.
