BECKLEY — Beckley area young artists had an opportunity to explore various media Saturday and work toward expanding the recently formed Splashes of Young Color. As part of the Splashes of Young Color event, more than 40 works of art by novice local middle and high school students were on display in the Raleigh County Public Library as professional area artists, including Tamarack artisans, shared how to become more versed in the arts.

Erin Belinga, vice president of Splashes of Young Color, said the organization began during the summer as a resource center for young, aspiring artists. Since its founding, Splashes of Young Color is helping students understand all forms of the arts, including painting and writing, and how to display or publish their works.

Andrea Watts, administrator of Splashes of Young Color, said the group is working to become a nonprofit organization and hopes to grow throughout West Virginia.
