Ready to clean up county

September 27, 2007 10:06 pm

Students from MSU Academy got a jump Thursday on other participants in Sherrie’s Sweep as they picked up litter around the South Kanawha Street campus. Students, from left, Natalia Underwood, Lazar Milinkovic and Erica Noggy were joined by more than two dozen classmates in participating in the third annual Sherrie’s Sweep that is being held today and Saturday all around the Beckley area. The event began in 2005 to honor Sherrie Hunter, marketing and education director for the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, who had been injured during a medical procedure. This year, more than 550 litter-getters have signed on to help clear Raleigh County of trash. Anyone who hasn’t signed up but would like to help can do so by picking up litter around their homes or places of business. Sherrie will thank you.
