Raiders roll to win over Summers

By Tom Fisher
For The Register-Herald

HINTON — The Liberty Raiders got off to a fast start on a warm night in Summers County and went on to post a 39-7 victory to even their record at 1-1.

On the second play from scrimmage, the Raiders’ Jamie Newman stripped the ball and went 24 yards for a Liberty score.

On the next possession, Nic Hudnall blocked a Bobcat punt and Mike Carpenter took the ball 33 yards into Bobcat territory.

A Raider fumble led to the Bobcats taking possession. But after the Raider defense took possession, Nick Hylton took the ball 13 yards for another Liberty touchdown.

The second quarter saw the Raiders’ rushing game take over. Coach Jeff Alexander said before the game the offense needed to executed better, and the “running back by committee” took over.

Hylton scored from 5 yards out. Dominick Cangemi capped an 80-yard drive when he took it in from the one. And Hylton scored again with 1:26 left in the first half to cap the first-half scoring for the Raiders.

The lone score in the first half for the Bobcats (0-2) was on a 57-yard pass from Timmy Wynes to Brandon Plumley.

Defenses dominated the second half with the only score being a 25-yard pass from Austin Wright to Jonathan Roles for the Raiders.

The Raiders amassed 300 yards rushing on 48 carries on the night.
