Girls prep basketball state tournament roundup

CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP
Wheeling Central 41, Huntington St. Joseph 37
CHARLESTON (AP) — Audra Droginske scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter and Wheeling Central came from 12 points down to beat St. Joseph 41-37 for the girls Class A championship Saturday.
Top-seeded St. Joseph (22-5) led nearly the entire game. The Irish were held without a field goal in the fourth quarter.
St. Joseph built a 22-10 lead midway through the second quarter.
Kat Stiglich scored all 10 of Wheeling Central’s points in the third and Droginske scored the team’s first eight of the fourth. Crystal Kleeh’s jumper in the lane put the No. 2 Maroon Knights (23-4) ahead 38-36 with 1:08 remaining.
Kleeh added a free throw and Stiglich made two more in the final 27 seconds to preserve the win.
Jill Pulley led St. Joseph with 15 points.

CLASS AAA CHAMPIONSHIP
Parkersburg South 51, Huntington 43
CHARLESTON — Kayla Ayers scored all 14 of her points in the second half to lead Parkersburg South past Huntington 51-43 in the girls Class AAA championship game Saturday night.
Second-seeded Parkersburg South (26-1) won its second title in three years. Huntington (25-2) lost in the title game for the second straight season. The teams split two games during the regular season.
Huntington came back from a 25-19 halftime deficit to tie the game at 35-35 after three quarters.
Ayers sank 3-pointers 30 seconds apart for a 41-40 lead with 5:56 left in the game. She gave Parkersburg South the lead for good with two free throws with 4:19 remaining for a 43-42 lead.
Huntington was held to one point the rest of the game.
Whitney Bays led Huntington with 18 points.
PARKERSBURG SOUTH (26-1)
