“One man kept talking about where he was going to put his things once he won the house,” said Deana Asbury, Hospice of Southern West Virginia nurse and open house volunteer. “It has really gotten people dreaming about what could happen.”
The hopeful gentleman was among over 250 people who recently toured the From Our House to Your House home. His ticket will be among the 4,000 potential winners who donate $100 to Hospice for a chance to win the home when the drawing is held early next month.
Hope is an emotion Hospice employees are familiar with.
“Our nurses, CNAs and social workers are very positive people. Their goal is to foster hope in their patients and to help them live comfortably, one day at a time,” explained Lisa McMillion, Hospice PR director.
The hope that Hospice of Southern West Virginia’s inpatient facility, Bowers Hospice House, will be mortgage-free following the fundraiser’s conclusion is very much alive within the organization and the community.
“There is a tangible excitement building among ticket holders over who will ultimately win the home,” notes McMillion.
She adds that donors continue to express their regard for the Hospice mission and that the contest has given them another chance to donate to something they believe in.
Recent additions to the home include landscaping donated by Green River Landscaping and a hand-painted dining room mural by artist K. Alexandra.
Open house tours sponsored by Beckley Board of Realtors continue Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. through August.

Discount Tile, First Community Bank (Beckley, Brookshire Lane, Daniels, and Hinton locations), Means Lumber, Grand Home Furnishings (Beckley and Lewisburg locations), Shoney’s of Beckley, First Peoples Bank, Bowers Hospice House and the Hospice of Southern West Virginia Administrative Offices at 190 Templeview Drive, just below United Methodist Temple.
