Blixt lighting up the leaderboard through 9 holes

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — As the conditions were firming up on the Old White TPC, thunderstorms rolled through the Greenbrier Valley and softened the course just in time for the first round of the Greenbrier Classic.

The morning wave is taking full advantage of the ripe conditions with 43 players under par.

Defending champion Jonas Blixt is leading the way at six-under though 11 holes with seven birdies — he did bogey the par-4 13th.

A large group of players at four-under par and tied for second. They include Davis Love III, James Hahn, Michael Thompson, Steve Stricker, D.A Points, Jason Bohn, Robert Streb and Chris Kirk.

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and PGA legends Tom Watson and Nick Faldo are all schedule to play in today’s afternoon wave.
