NRCTC plans welding class

For The Register-Herald

—

New River Community and Technical College will host an open house at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center in Craigsville to give prospective students an opportunity to learn about the welding program that the college offers at the Center.

College representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the application and financial aid process.

New River offers both an associate degree and a certificate program in welding at three locations. These programs prepare students to prepare students for entry-level positions in basic shop and repair welding. Topics covered include fabrication, basic construction using various welding techniques and blueprint reading.

Spring semester classes will begin Jan. 14. Welding classes will be offered on Monday and Thursday evenings from 4  to 7 p.m. to accommodate students who work or attend classes during the day

The instructor for the Nicholas County Campus-based program is Joe Hypes.  Attendees at the open house can learn more about the program and also can register for spring classes at that time. Anyone who cannot attend the Open House, or who would like to get additional information before then, is welcome to call Hypes at 304- 742-5416, or e-mail vnutter@access.k12.wv.gov.

The welding program is also offered at the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg and at the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent.
