Pet poop waste stations to help wipe away stinky problem

The Piney Creek Watershed (PCWA) is home to more than 10,000 dogs that collectively produce over 2 tons of fecal waste per day.

Now you have an opportunity to promote responsible pet ownership and contribute to a healthier, cleaner community by sponsoring a pet waste station in your neighborhood, local park or at your place of business.

The PCWA, with financial support from the Beckley Area Foundation and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, is spearheading a campaign to add 25 new waste stations throughout the area.

A pet waste station consists of a steel box that dispenses individual plastic bags that are used to collect and dispose of pet poop. The dispenser is mounted on a pole with a high-quality, durable sign that stresses the importance of proper disposal of pet waste and also recognizes the financial sponsor of the station.

PCWA is seeking sponsors. Anyone can become a sponsor at $100 per station. Although the actual cost of each station is much higher, grant funding allows us to offer sponsorships at this reduced rate. Stations can be sponsored in memory of an individual, a beloved pet or by a family, non-profit organization, business, or any way you choose.

Sponsors can request installation in a given area, subject to property owner’s and any city/county ordinance constraints. We can also suggest a location.

You can help keep the community clean and “doody-free” by sponsoring a pet waste station.

For information on sponsorships, contact PCWA Director Jim Fedders at 304-228-1680 or e-mail pineycreekwatershedassociation@gmail.com.
