Beckley Concert Association will open its 75th season Thursday evening with a tribute to the historical 1938 jazz concert at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Jazz clarinetist and Benny Goodman alumnus Ken Peplowski will be featured with the highly acclaimed Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Goodman’s revolutionary performance that claimed a new place for jazz on the American cultural scene and has come to be seen as the most important jazz concert in history.
The evening with today’s premier jazz clarinetist will feature numerous classics from Goodman’s historic performance, including “Don’t Be That Way,” “Memories of You” and the iconic “Sing, Sing, Sing”.
The concert will be held at the Woodrow Wilson High School auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online, by renewal of membership or at the door the night of the performance.
