Concert, car raffle to benefit cancer patient

— A concert to benefit cancer patient Carlisa Gibson Fields is planned Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Tickets are $10 at the door and children 12 and under will be admitted free.

Proceeds from the benefit will be donated to Fields, a 36-year-old single mother and Beckley native who was diagnosed with breast cancer on Dec. 23, 2012.

She underwent a double mastectomy in January, followed by treatments in Evansville, Ind. When those were not effective, she began treatments at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and will undergo another surgery on Sept. 10 to remove more tissue for testing. She then will receive radiation for six weeks starting in October.

Proceeds from the concert will be applied to her expenses of her upcoming treatments and procedures.

The Gibson family has started a raffle for a 1999 Camaro Z28 (showroom condition) and when the minimum of 750 tickets are sold, a drawing will be held to announce the winner. The Gibson family hopes to meet this goal so the car can be given away at the concert. Tickets are $20 each.

There will also be additional raffles the night of the concert.
