A limited number of students will be accepted for the spring semester in the Cosmetology and Nail Technician programs at the New River Community and Technical College Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg.
Program coordinator Lisa Brown Carter said 25 students will be accepted into the Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology program, and 10 will be accepted into the Nail Technician Certificate Program.
New nail technician classes begin in January, May and August, Carter said. Cosmetology classes begin in January and August.
The Associate of Applied Science program in Cosmetology program consists of 58 credit hours of instruction in both theoretical and practical skill development required for licensure by the West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. An additional 15 hours of general studies courses are required to complete the degree program.
The Nail Care Technician Certificate program consists of 18 credit hours of instruction in both theoretical and practical skill development (400 hours) required for licensure by the West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
Students in these programs must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Physical requirements include finger dexterity, negative allergic reaction to cosmetic preparations and an artistic flair for creative design. Students in both programs are eligible for federal financial aid.
Anyone interested in these programs should apply right away in order to secure a spot and to be sure that financial aid is processed before classes begin in January. For further information about the program, contact Carter at 304-647-3005.
Carter also noted that students who enrolled in the program this fall are now offering a full range of cosmetology and nail services at reduced rates in the Cosmetology Lab on the ground floor of Greenbrier Hall. Services available include haircuts, perms, hair color, manicures, pedicures, shellac nails and artificial nails.
Hours are by appointment only between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For appointments, call 304-793-3009.
