GVT has songs, scares and stories in store for October

From “Always ... Patsy Cline” to Literary Teas and even a Haunted House, October continues to be a busy month for Greenbrier Valley Theatre.

“Always ... Patsy Cline” previews Thursday and opens Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Featuring more than two dozen of Cline’s most popular songs, the show focuses on the friendship between the singer and housewife Louise Seger. A poignant moment of the show is when Seger learns of Cline’s untimely death in a plane crash.

Seger narrates while Cline floats in and out singing her most popular songs.

The two-person musical features GVT favorite Kim Morgan Dean (“Cabaret,” “Oliver!,” “Winter Wonderettes” and many more) as Cline and GVT Artistic Director Cathey Sawyer as Seger.

“Always ... Patsy Cline” is a dinner theater presentation, with a menu including Virginia baked ham and fried chicken from The Mason Jar in White Sulphur Springs served one hour before each performance.

GVT’s Literary Tea series continues Tuesday with two West Virginia Writers members Fred Powers, who will read from his upcoming nonfiction collection “Powerhouse: A Coal Miner’s Story,” and Eric Fritzius, who will read the Bret Harte story “The Luck of Roaring Camp,” which tells of a group of miners who change their ways when tasked with raising an orphaned boy.

For its younger audiences, GVT’s Youth Education Program will offer a Haunted House Friday, Saturday and Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m.
