Children’s Fishing Derby planned

— The White Sulphur Springs Rotary Club and the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery’s annual Children’s Fishing Derby will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 25 at the hatchery.

The derby is in conjunction with White Sulphur Springs’ Dandelion Festival.

The event is for children ages 3 to 13. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. for children up to age 6. Registration for older children will begin at 9 a.m. for ages 7-9 and at 10 a.m. for ages 10-13.

All children are invited to fish in a hatchery pond that has been stocked with rainbow trout for the event. Children 3 to 6 years old will fish from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The 7-10-year-olds will fish from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. and the 11-13-year-olds from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. There is a two-fish limit for each youngster. When the children have finished, seniors are welcome to fish until noon.

Each angler is asked to bring his or her own fishing rod and plastic bait; no live bait will be allowed. We also ask that you try to use barbless fishing hooks. And don’t forget to bring a cooler in which to bring home your fish.
