Mount Hope group seeking mini-grant applications

The Greater Mount Hope Community Fund Inc. is seeking applications for its 2014 discretionary mini-grants. Fund officials will consider grant requests for projects in the City of Mount Hope and surrounding communities. Requests are limited to no more than $1,870.

In order to benefit a greater number of projects, requests for amounts smaller than the maximum are encouraged.

“We continue to be interested in projects dealing with civic beautification or projects designed to enhance the quality of life for those who live here and to make our communities more appealing for those who are visiting the area,” said Sandy McIntire, president.

To be eligible for a GMHCF grant, either the applicant or the proposed grant recipient must be a nonprofit organization, tax exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or a public institution such as a school or municipality.

Grant application packets are available from GMHCF, 211 Bluestone Road, Mount Hope, WV 25880, or by calling 304-877-9191 or 304-877-6603. Completed applications and all requested supporting information must be postmarked or received in the Fund office no later than May 16 to be eligible for consideration.

In previous years, grants were awarded to Mt. Hope Heritage & Hope for the Main Street Banner project, to Mt. Hope Elementary for reading enrichment programs, and to the Coal Heritage Highway Authority to begin restoration of their building on Main Street that will house the Coal Heritage Highway museum. In addition, the GMHCF has supported the Mt. Hope Youth Soccer program, Bradley Elementary School’s playground project, and the Mt. Hope Jubilee.
