St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton ushers in the Lenten season Feb. 15 with the first of three Friday evening fish frys.
Sponsored by the women of the parish and men’s organization, The Friars Club, the popular annual dinners feature fried or baked tilapia, potatoes au gratin, coleslaw, roll, drink and dessert, all for $10 per adult and $6 for children under 12.
Proceeds from the dinner go to support St. Patrick Catholic Church and its parish activities.
“The Lenten Fish Frys continue to grow in popularity year after year,” said Kit Durnan, chairman of the Friars Club. “We also have seen a growing number of diners switching from the traditional fried tilapia and trying the baked tilapia we introduced a few years ago. From only 20 baked dinners sold the first year they were offered, baked orders increased each year until now they exceed fully a third of the 200-plus dinners we serve on each of the three Fridays we do this during Lent.”
This year, the St. Patrick Lenten fish frys are being held from 4 to 7 p.m., eat-in or take-out, Feb. 15 and March 1 and March 22 in the Church Hall at the corner of Temple Street and Second Avenue in downtown Hinton.
