Library seminars to focus on the Internet, Web design, interview skills, resume writing and more

The Community Connect Foundation has scheduled several job and career development seminars in April at Raleigh County Library, 221 N. Kanawha St., Beckley.

Resume Writing will be held April 18 from 11 to noon. The seminar will focus on how to develop, format and draft a professional resume. In addition to presenting this information, volunteers will be on hand to review resumes and cover letters of attendees and offer up suggestions for improvement.

Participants should bring a copy of their resume and cover letters. Supplemental information about this seminar will be available through the Learning Express Library and the e-books available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, both of which are free to participants who have an active local library card.

Interview Skills will be held the same day from 2 to 3 p.m. The focus of this seminar is how to prepare for and successfully sell yourself in a job interview. Again, volunteers will be available to answer specific questions as well as practice the skills covered in the course. Supplemental information about this seminar will be available through the Learning Express Library and the E-Books available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, both of which are free to participants who have an active local library card.

On April 19 a one-hour course Internet Use is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon, focusing on the basics of Internet use as well how to access online resources available through the West Virginia Learning Express Library Portal.

Volunteers will provide specific direction to attendees who want to practice the skills covered in the course on library computers.

That afternoon, Introduction to Website Design will be presented from 2 to 3 p.m. It will present the basics of website design and an introduction to online tools that will allow attendees to easily create a free website.

Volunteers will give specific direction to attendees who want to practice the skills covered in the course on library computers.
