New River Community and Technical College to offer 6-week metal art class

— New River Community and Technical College will offer a unique metal art class staring June 3. The class combines metalworking with imagination in a safe and fun environment at New River’s welding facility at the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent.

In this six-week course, students will learn to use an oxy-fuel torch, plasma cutter and weld basics in one of a variety of welding disciplines. Participants will produce a a project to take home.

The class will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through July 8. The $400 tuition includes materials, use of machinery and the use of some personal protective equipment. Each student will leave with basic cutting and welding knowledge as well as the know-how to project ideas from your imagination to metal.

The metal art course is taught by New River welding faculty member Brad Veneri, an American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator as well as Certified Assistant Welding Inspector. With more than 20 years of welding experience, Veneri has a broad background in the welding industry from the aspects of employee and employer. He has an associate of applied science degree in welding technology from WVU at Parkersburg.

The metal art course is open to those of any age wanting to learn a new skill. Class size is limited to 10 participants, and preregistration is required.
