Mountain View students learn about careers

Career Day at Mountain View Christian School was observed on April 12.

The activities were coordinated by the school’s National Honor Society to provide the students with information on a variety of careers as they face setting career goals for the future.

Area professionals came to present the students with information about his or her career. The students were divided into small groups and attended a 15-minute session with each of the guest speakers simultaneously.

During the session, the speaker discussed the duties entailed with this particular profession, the necessary education to attain this career, the joy that they themselves received from making this career choice, and humorous incidents that had occurred in their work environment, and responded to students’ questions.

Erwin Conrad presented information on becoming a lawyer and Jim Boothe gave his input on network engineering. Various medical professions were addressed: Dr. Foley’s office was represented by an orthodontist assistant; nursing was covered by a registered nurse, Patricia Lane; Kelly Riffe enlightened students about the life of a phlebotomist; radiology was discussed by Andy Burleson; and the administrative side of the hospital was addressed by Will Weatherford.

Law enforcement information was provided by the Oak Police Department via Officer Abbie Greenwood and forensics expert Mason Hines. Bobby Knight joined the event from Jumping Branch to inform students on the art of horse training. There was a wide array of career choices addressed.

The school and its students appreciate everyone who assisted in making Career Day a great success.
