TWV auditions set for March 30

If you’ve always wanted a chance to take the stage and show the world your talents, then Theatre West Virginia might have a spot for you.

Local auditions for TWV’s upcoming productions will be from noon to 4 p.m. March 30 at the Mabscott administrative offices.

TWV is looking for cast members for its acclaimed historical dramas, “Honey in the Rock” and “Hatfields and McCoys,” as well as this summer’s two musical productions, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Rocket Boys — The Musical.

“Honey in the Rock”  tells the story of West Virginia’s birth during the Civil War, while “Hatfields and McCoys” brings to life the famous feud between rival families in West Virginia and Kentucky.

“Rocket Boys,” which had its world premiere with TWV in 2011, is based on West Virginia native Homer Hickam’s popular autobiographical book that was made into the movie “October Sky.”

“The Wizard of Oz” is the classic tale of young Dorothy Gale’s amazing journey over the rainbow to a magical world of wizards and witches.

TWV’s season runs from June 11 to Aug. 25 with rehearsals beginning in May.

Those auditioning need to prepare 16 bars (30 seconds) of an up-tempo musical number, 16 bars of a ballad and a 1-minute contemporary monologue.

Pre-recorded accompaniment is needed because there will not be an accompanist on site. A headshot and resume are also required.

Children ages 8 and up are encouraged to audition. If you don’t have a professional photo, a school photo is acceptable.

For more information, call Theatre West Virginia between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 304-256-6800 or toll-free at 800-666-9142.
