New River Community and Technical College will offer an introductory ghost hunting class in Lewisburg and an advanced class in Summersville in September.
Ghost Hunting 101 will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 3 and 5 in Lewisburg. The instructor is Sherri Brake, an author and paranormal investigator with nearly 30 years of experience. She has been a guest on paranormal TV shows and has extensive experience leading ghost tours in several states.
Class participants will learn about ghosts and sprits while examining the basics of the paranormal phenomena. They will learn how to do a proper ghost investigation and to research hauntings.
Some of the topics covered are defining paranormal hauntings vs. paranormal activity, ghosts and spirits, demons and Hollywood, West Virginia haunted locations, ghosts in photos, tools of the trade and how to use them, proper investigation documentation and safety protocols.
The class will meet on the Greenbrier Valley Campus, 101 Church St., the first night and at a field location to be announced by the instructor for the second night.
Tuition is $75. This class has limited enrollment and is expected to fill quickly.
Advanced Ghost Hunting will be offered Sept. 17 and 19 in Summersville. Sherri Brake will share her in-depth knowledge of the paranormal including EVP work (Electronic Voice Phenomena) and the use of other investigative techniques.
The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the WorkForce West Virginia Building, Northside Drive, and off-site from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Whipple Coal Company Store near Oak Hill.
Participants will drive themselves to the ghost hunt on the second class night. A tour of the building will be followed by an investigation on your own or with supervision from the instructor. Some ghost hunting equipment will be available for use by students that night.
Tuition is $80. Preregistration is required, and enrollment is limited.
