$7,000 grant from BAF helps Hospice House

The Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House became safer and more accessible, thanks in part to a $7,000 grant awarded in 2012 to Hospice of Southern West Virginia from the Beckley Area Foundation.

HSWV used the funds for the purchase, installation and implementation of the Wanderguard system at Bowers Hospice House. The primary goal of adding a wander management system was to expand access to hospice patients who may be confused and have a tendency to wander. The system also makes the facility more safe and secure.

Hospice Executive Director Janett Green said, “We rely on the generous nature of our community, and the Beckley Area Foundation is one of our biggest supporters. We are truly thankful for this gift, and for all the good work BAF does for this community.”

Hospice of Southern West Virginia is a private, nonprofit organization designed to serve the needs of people living with a life-limiting illness and to serve the families caring for them. Care is focused on comfort and dignity. Services are provided in Fayette, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties.

Hospice services are provided primarily in patient homes, but may also continue in most long-term care facilities and personal care homes. The Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House is an additional option for those in need of end-of-life care in southern West Virginia.
